It’s ZOO DAYS at DISCOVERY KIDZ! This week:  It’s all about

 the Zebra.  Zebras are different!  God made them that way!  The wavy

 lines of a Zebra blend in with the wavy lines of the tall grass around

 it.  It doesn’t matter that the Zebra’s stripes are black and white and

 the lines of the grass are yellow, brown, or green, because the Zebra’s

 main predator, the lion, is color blind!  God has a specific plan for

 every one of us and He made us just the way He wants us to be…in

 His image.

Memory Verse this week: 

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.

A PRAYER GROUP will meet following the service in the sanctuary

 to pray for Pastor George & Connections, and the needs and vision at

 Grace Reformed Church.


SUNDAYS AT 6:00 - We will be meeting with Faith Reformed

 Church, 618  32nd Street for the remainder of the summer!  Please

 come join us there!




HEALTH CONCERNS –  Karen Ver Hulst was able to return to her

 home.  Please continue to pray for healing and strength.  For all

 other Prayer Requests and Praise Reports, see the Prayer insert in

 your bulletin.




NEXT SUNDAY Pastor Rick will continue with the “Read Your Bible

 in a Year” series. 







Y-LIFE - This Tuesday night, August 18, come on out for a game night  

 and meet other youth from Newhall Community! Yes, as always

 friends are welcome.  Meet at Grace at 6pm


THE CROSSING will be resuming soon! There will be a meeting for

 past VOLUNTEERS that are still planning on helping out. This

 meeting is also open to new volunteers interested. Volunteering can

 be a weekly, monthly or full year commitments.  We will meet briefly

 next Sunday, August 23!  See Heather if you have any questions or

 can't make the meeting but are planning on volunteering.

CONSISTORY MEMBERS – Meetings will take place on Monday,

 August 24.  Elders will meet at 6:30 pm and Consistory at 7:30 pm.


HELP NEEDED for cleaning up the back yard of the Crossing in

 preparation for the gaga pit being installed. Those that are available

 please meet August 24th at the Crossing at 6:30pm. Questions see



SENIOR CHOIR – Your first practice of the season will take place on

 Wednesday, September 9 at 6:30 pm.


ZOO POTLUCK  - Discovery Kidz are hosting an all-church

 potluck at the John Ball Zoo on Sunday, September 13 following the

 morning service.  Mark you calendars and plan to attend! 

 Discounted tickets will be available for those who wish to go into the

 zoo on that day.



THE SPECIAL OFFERING for the month of August is designated for

 WORDS OF HOPE.  Words of Hope proclaims Jesus Christ

 through broadcasting in the languages of the world's peoples. 

 Along with other partners in ministry they build the church by

 winning the uncommitted to faith in Christ and by encouraging

 Christians in the life of discipleship.  Also, we get the daily

 devotionals from Words of Hope free of charge! This special

 offering will be received on August 30.

Congregational Prayers and Praise

  • We thank and praise God for the beauty of summer.  For long days and warm weather.  We thank God for times of rest and relaxation.
  • We pray today for Karen Ver Hulst.  We pray for returned strength and healing.
  • Keep Lucille Sytsema in your prayers as she heals and begins therapy.
  • Please continue to be in prayer for Lola De Young and her parents Matt & Lindsey (nee Foster).  We pray that Lola’s match will be found. 
  • Continue to keep Heather Dood in your prayers as she begins the process of becoming a Commissioned Pastor.
  • Fall plans are being made!  Please pray for willing volunteers and a willingness to dig in!
  • We pray today for Pastor George and his work at Connections.  We pray for the many activities and groups at the Crossing.
  • Thank you for remembering Wes Dekker’s sister, Janet, in your prayers. Please pray that they will be able to restrain any cancer left in her system. 
  • Please remember Marie Mc Donald, friend of Esther Hoag, who has cancer.
  • We pray today for Jeff and Chelsea Lampen as they prepare to serve in Romania. 
  • Pray for our Shut-in’s: Mrs. Tena DeVink, Mrs. Wilma Kamphuis, Mr. Mac Mc Alary, Mrs. Ruth Ver Merris.
