GRACE RESPONDS TO THE EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI
Presently we have an offering scheduled for February 28 to help replenish the supply of blankets the
CWS and RCWS has on hand for disasters like the one we just witnessed in Haiti.
Our Easter Offering here at Grace will go to Reformed Church World Service, which is our Reformed
Church leg which gives money to disasters around the world…the initial contribution was $10,000 and
‘we are confident that in the longer term, much more will be given’. David Dethmers (representing
RCWS) is presently in Haiti. He says, “the goal of the trip, in addition to encouraging and supporting RCA
partners in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, is to listen to local partners, developing a mid and long
range strategy that will support the Haitians as they plan and implement their own recovery and plan
* “It never ceases to amaze me about God’s timing…the Mission Outreach Team had the above 2
offerings in place a few days before the earthquake hit!” ~Shari
LOOKING AHEAD we as a church may make Hygiene and Baby Kits and
ship them to the warehouse in Maryland (this is the place where
Shari Dood and Phyllis Vander Sloot worked on their mission trip in
Nov. 2008) because there is an urgent request to replenish the
supplies there. (They shipped over 25,000 hygiene kits and several
thousand baby kits to Haiti.)
MUSIC CONCERT – Thom Mc Guire is working alongside others in
organizing a concert on January 31st at the Wealthy Street Theater.
All funds raised will be sent to Conduit Mission where 100% of the
monies received go directly to the ground in Haiti. See Thom this
week for more details if you are interested in attending.
