SUSAN G. KOMEN 3-DAY FOR A CURE EVENT – HEATHER DOOD, DEB

G Komen 3 Day for the Cure in Michigan August 13-15th? Did you
know that they have been hard at work logging miles and miles of
training and raising over $11,500 and counting?

Participating in the 3 Day is very rewarding but also very challenging
physically and mentally and they could use your help! To get the
team back out on the route for day 2 & 3 (miles 30-60!!) they could
use a little motivation and encouragement. The 3 Day has mail boxes
for the walkers and crew and they LOVE to see lots of cards, letters, &
postcards stacked up with their name on it!

To send a card, letter or postcard to your friend or family member
(no packages please!) just send it postmarked no later than August
3rd to: 3-Day for the Cure PO; ATTN: (INSERT NAME OF
PARTICIPANT), P.O. Box 611, South Lyon, MI 48178

ONE SHEPHERD IS STILL NEEDED for Discovery Kidz Aug. 15 – 29th

IN THE EVENT OF A TORNADO WARNING OR WATCH OR A
THUNDERSTORM WARNING one hour before a scheduled event, that
event will be cancelled.

COLLECTION OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES: (This is a combined project of the
Mission Team and the GEMS!) During August and into September
we will be collecting school supplies for the over 200 school bags that
Phyllis Vander Sloot has already sewed for this purpose. These
‘School Kits’ will be given to Church World Service. Church World
Service sends these kits around the world to children in
impoverished schools, refugee camps, and other difficult settings so
that children can have the basic tools for learning.
The bags need to be filled with specific items.

Each bag will contain the same school supplies:

1 pair of blunt scissors (rounded tip), three 70-count spiral or tape-bound pads of 8” X 10 ½”

ruled paper or pads with 200-210 sheets of ruled paper (Please do not provide loose-leaf or filler paper),

one 30-centimeter ruler (12” ), one hand-held pencil sharpener, one large eraser, six new pencils with erasers,

one box of 24 crayons (only 24). Bring the requested school supplies to church.

Boxes are in the narthex to collect the school supplies for filling the bags. Presently our goal is to fill 200 bags.
