World Communion Community Service

October 2, 2011

 

Welcome! It is good that as brothers and sisters in Christ and fellow

members of the Reformed Church in America that we can gather together

in this service to worship and to celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

PRAYERS & PRAISE

 

OUR CHRISTIAN SYMPATHIES are extended to Shirley De Bruin

 and Ruth Ver Merris as well as the entire Ver Merris family upon the

 death last week of Dorthella Ver Merris, sister-in-law of Shirley &

 Ruth, at the age of 79. Funeral services were held on Thursday

 afternoon.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2011

 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM COUNTY WIDE FOOD DRIVE – The

 morning will begin with a Praise Rally in our sanctuary. 

 Choose your own hours to help! See Shari if you have

 questions.

 5:00 - 7:00 PM PUMPKIN PATH AT LAMAR PARK – Bring

 your children or grandchildren out in costume for a fun and

 safe trick or treating activity. Our Discovery Kidz will host a

 booth to hand out candy and church info to the kids.

 CANDY DONATIONS NEEDED! Lots of Candy!! 

 Please drop off candy on the youth check in desk by October 5. 

 ALSO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Children or adults

 willing to dress up as Bible Characters and hand out candy.

NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011

 

NEXT SUNDAY Pastor Rick will continue the series “When God

 Shows Up” with the message: “The World is Turned Upside Down”

 from Acts. 17.

 

MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

DISCOVERY KIDZ next rotation will run from October 16 –

 November 13. We need leaders for games and theater and 2

 shepherds. Sign up in the narthex if you can help!

 

OUR SPECIAL OFFERING FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER

 IS “Great Hour of Sharing” which is a program of

 Reformed Church World Service, which brings new life and

 hope to God’s children across the globe. This year’s theme is

 ‘Sharing Brings Joy”, based on 2 Corinthians 9:8 “God is able to

 provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always

 having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every

 good work.” 

 One of the recent areas RCWS is addressing is the African hunger

 crisis, due to severe drought, in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and

 Sudan. Recently, Hurricane Irene has resulted in flooding and other

 damage which has devastated homes and churches along the US East

 Coast….RCWS will assess the situation and provide financial help as

 they are able. This special offering will be received on October 30.

 

THE NEW MEMBERS CLASS has been postponed until the week of

 October 9. You can still sign up on the sheet in the narthex if

 interested. Questions…see or call Shari Dood (538-3100 or

 538-7498).

 

LIFE RECOVERY MEETING to be held at Faith Reformed Church

 (618 32nd Street, Wyoming) on Monday’s at 7:00 pm. This group will

 study the 12 Steps of Recovery using the Life Recovery Bible. For

 more information contact Mark at 616-427-9423.

 

CASH FOR CLASS – Family Fare and D & W are once again offering

 the Cash for Class program for schools/churches. This program is

 now tied with their “yes” card. You can designate our church code

 95688 when you sign up for this card. This first event week will be

 October 2-8. A portion of their proceeds will be donated to Grace.

 

LOCAL Habitat for Humanity BUILD! Churches and

 Habitat are partnering in the ‘Faith United Build’ on the southeast

 side of GR. We are putting together a work group from Grace to

 work on these homes on Saturday, October 22. Some jobs include

 demolition, framing carpentry, trim carpentry, and landscaping

 opportunities. Sign up in the narthex if interested

 

CHICAGO TRIP – Zion Reformed Church as once again invited us to

 join them in a bus trip to downtown Chicago. They will leave from

 the parking lot at Zion at 7:00 am sharp on Friday, December 2 and

 return at approximately 11:00 pm. Cost is $35.00 per person. Please

 call Sue Stuk (538-3100 or 532-7729) to reserve your spot.

  • We thank God for the freedom we enjoy in this country to worship our Great God.

  • We pray for the upcoming ACCESS Food Drive on Saturday.
  • We thank God for this community we live in. For the many kind and compassionate persons who give of their time
  • and talents to help those in need.
  • Please pray for Jae & Julia as they move into the parsonage at Faith Reformed Church with the other Karen family. 
  • We pray for our mission trip to Chiapas….may all the funding come in and volunteers be willing to give of their time, talent, and money.
  • Please be in prayer for Esther Hoag’s friend who is in need of nursing care.
