 Today’s Message:
“WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?” Rev. Rick Oppenhuizen
 Scripture: Jeremiah 20:7-18  (Page 754)
 Participants in Worship Today:
 The Praise Team
 Paul Kerkstra, Organist
 Ruth Tacoma, Pianist
 Christina Kleymeer, Soloist
Drama:  Pastor Rick Oppenhuizen, Keith Benthin, Kara Pierce,
 Ashley & Stacy Veldheer
The search for the purpose of life has puzzled people for thousands of years.  That’s because we typically begin at the wrong starting point – ourselves.  But focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose.  The Bible says, “it is God who directs the lives of his creatures;  everyone’s life is in his power.”
Many people try to use God for their own self-actualization, but that is a reversal of nature and is doomed to failure.  You were made for God, not vice-versa, and life is about letting God use you for his purposes, not using him for your own purpose.
Andrei Bitov, a Russian novelist, grew up under an atheistic communist regime.  But God got his attention one dreary day.  He recalls, “In my twenty-seventh year, while riding the metro in Leningrad I was overcome with a despair so great that life seemed to stop at once, preempting the future entirely, let alone any meaning.  Suddenly, all by itself, a phrase appeared.  Without God life makes no sense.  Repeating it in astonishment, I rode the phrase up like a moving staircase, got out of the metro and walked into God’s light.”
You may have felt in the dark about your purpose in life. Congratulations, you’re about to walk into the light.

HURRICANE RELIEF FUND – Next week we will be taking a special offering for
Hurricane relief.  Originally this offering was designated to give to
Reformed Church World Service.  However, due to recent information
received from Jennifer Moody we are changing this offering to have 75%
go to RCWS and 25% go to help Jennifer’s mom rebuild their home
destroyed in Hurricane Katrina (they have received word that their
insurance will not cover a lot of the damage because it does not cover
floods).  Also, we are giving you the opportunity to specify where you
want your donation to be placed…in other words, you can request that all
of your money go to RCWS or all given to the Moody Family, or any
combination.  Again, anything given with no specification will go in a
general pile that is 25% to the Moody Family and 75% to RCWS.
Envelopes are available in the pew racks, but remember to put your
number on the envelope as well as specific instructions.
FOOD & OTHER ITEMS FOR HURRICANE RELIEF – Grace will also be collecting
items for Hurricane victims.  The Outreach Team has decided to partner
with Project Hope and Compassion, an interdenominational group
formed out of the LOVE Inc. network of churches.  We will collect the
following items here and they will pick them up and truck it to where it is
needed.  Suggested items are: water, baby needs, toiletries, dry food items
(cereal, rice, instant potato, macaroni, crackers, cookies), canned goods
(jelly, peanut butter, coffee, beans, vegetables) catsup, mustard, relish,
cleaning supplies (BIG demand) such as dish soap, laundry soap, bleach,
and buckets.  Also, over the counter medicines.  Please bring them items
to the church kitchen by October 2.
CHECK YOUR MAILBOX TODAY for a letter concerning the Election of Elders
INELIGIBLE PERSONS.  Please refer to this list when thinking and praying
about those whom you will nominate to serve on the Consistory.
Nominations will be received next Sunday.
ATTENTION!! THOSE NOT IN A PURPOSE GROUP - If it is not possible for you to
